Chelsea have reportedly been scouting Euro 2020 star Manuel Locatelli for some time ahead of a potential move for the Sassuolo star this summer.
The Italian midfielder has caught the eye with his displays for his country so far in the European Championship, with two goals in their win over Switzerland.
The 23-year-old has been linked with plenty of clubs in the build-up to the tournament, and it will come as no surprise that some of the top teams in Europe have been keeping an eye on the talented Sassuolo midfielder.
Arsenal have been strongly linked over the last week and football.london understands Mikel Arteta is targeting a squad overhaul this summer.
And with Thomas Tuchel keen to add strength in depth to his side as he targets a Premier League title challenge, Chelsea are said to have been keeping tabs on the midfielder.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano says that the Blues are among teams from across Europe who have been scouting the central midfielder.
“Many clubs are asking for Locatelli. From Spain, from Germany, from England,” Romano said on the Don Robbie YouTube channel.
“Manchester City have been scouting him for a long time and Chelsea too.”
Chelsea are currently well-stocked in the centre of midfield with N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho all competing for places and Billy Gilmour breaking into the team, while Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech can also play in a central role if required.
There have been doubts over Jorginho’s future at Stamford Bridge with the Italian midfielder looking likely to leave at points over the last two seasons.
However, his agent has spoken about the 29-year-old’s desire to stay in West London to boost his bid for a place in the 2022 World Cup squad.
“Jorginho is very well, he has won the Europa League and the Champions League and now the goal is to win the Euros,” Joao Santos told Radio Marte (via 100×100 Napoli).
“[Against Switzerland] he showed serious, proactive football with results.

“Obviously he won the Champions League and therefore there are enquiries from the main teams in Europe.
“But in my opinion he will stay at Chelsea next year because the next goal is to play the World Cup in Qatar with Italy.
“And by staying at Chelsea he has great chances of doing so.”
