Duke basketball may soon have a formidable starting lineup of 2022 talents.
Since becoming the Duke basketball head coach-in-waiting in early June, Jon Scheyer has extended 11 scholarship offers total between the class of 2022 and 2023. Five of those 11 have revealed winners.
And all five — listed below with their 247Sports composite rankings in parentheses — chose the Duke Blue Devils:
- Five-star 2022 center Dereck Lively (No. 2)
- Five-star 2022 small forward Dariq Whitehead (No. 5)
- Five-star 2022 power forward Kyle Filipowski (No. 8)
- Four-star 2022 shooting guard Jaden Schutt (No. 56)
- Five-star 2023 point guard Caleb Foster (No. 12)
Following Monday’s commitment from Lively, Duke reigns atop the 247Sports 2022 Team Rankings. Now, there’s no denying that the staff is enjoying a recruiting hot streak of epic proportions.
So which prize will the Duke basketball coaches snag next?
Currently, it looks as if La Lumiere (Ind.) four-star point guard JJ Starling represents the best chance to keep the recruiting fire blazing in Durham.
Earlier this month, Starling named five finalists: Duke, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Stanford, and Syracuse. Also, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound slick sharpshooter, who ranks No. 33 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Composite, recently pointed to October as a timeline for announcing his school of choice.

Meanwhile, Starling plans to take his final official visit this weekend when he travels to Duke. That fact alone ought to be a positive sign.
Factor in as well the program’s sheer recruiting prowess of late in addition to the 247Sports Crystal Ball favoring the Blue Devils. Yes, it makes sense that rumors are suddenly swirling about JJ Starling potentially pledging allegiance to Duke while on campus — should he enjoy his trip, of course.
One thing’s for sure: as hosts, Jon Scheyer and his cohorts have received zero complaints this summer.
No, quite the opposite.
